My name is Michael Brooks, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I take a very direct compassionate approach to therapy. My main focus areas of practice are PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
My approach
I use a variety of therapeutic approaches during my therapy work however, my most common theoretical approaches are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-focused CBT and Positive Psychology.
My focus
The type of clients I typically work with are trauma survivors. I am most comfortable treating trauma of all sorts, depression, anxiety as well as couples working through infidelity and other problems in their relationships.
My communication style
I try to create a very informed, warm environment. My tone is very warm, compassionate, yet direct. When people work with me, I try to make them feel heard and understood, they also know where they stand with me at all times.
My journey to mental healthcare
My childhood, and my experience as an Army veteran attracted me to a career as a therapist. The ability to relate to people and see the relief they are experiencing as they embark on their journey is what drives me to do this work.
My goals for you
Goal setting is very collaborative and specific with my approach. I check in with clients on their goals every session.
My first session with you
Clients should expect during the first session to hear about my background in therapy, my approach to treatment and what they can expect during their journey.
