Maya Attia, LMFT# 139693, is a sex-positive, LGBTQ+ affirming, polyamory, kink, and BDSM-friendly therapist. She offers space to express, explore, and learn about your whole self to find ease and greater satisfaction in life.
My approach
Her approach is humanistic and tender. She facilitates conversations that inspire insight and change. She enjoys using the practical tools from cognitive behavioral therapy, ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), and other modalities, but at her core, she is relational.
My focus
She helps adults and couples gain awareness and skills to cope with hardship. She also supports couples to communicate, set boundaries, and meet their needs, including those where one partner identifies as neurodiverse.
My communication style
Her clients would describe her as someone who's pretty easy to talk to. She's been told that she's one of those therapists that you can "actually have a conversation with" as opposed to just asking, "how does that make you feel?".
My journey to mental healthcare
Before becoming a therapist, she was a voice teacher. She quickly realized her students wanted more than a voice lesson: they craved a safe place to express their feelings. So she felt called to give people a comforting environment to embody, explore, and learn about themselves without judgment or shame.
My goals for you
You determine together where you're at and what makes sense for you. For instance, if you've never run a marathon, she's not going to suggest you run one now. She starts off with small and sustainable changes.
My first session with you
The first sessions are generally intake, where she asks you a bunch of different questions in order to understand your history and areas you are struggling. During this time, you also set some goals for you to work on together.
