Hi there, I'm Luisa!

My name is Luisa Amighetti, and I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at LMFT. I work in Los Angeles, California, providing services via telehealth with individuals and couples who struggle with anxiety, depression, perinatal/maternal mental health or who are facing tough life decisions/role transitions. My approach to therapy is to build trust with my clients to foster openness to change and healing. Even though I use different modalities like cognitive behavioral therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and trauma-informed strategies, among others, I use attachment and family systems as the basis to help my clients make progress toward their goals in therapy.

My approach

My approach to therapy is to work collaboratively and to listen to people's life stories and reasons for seeking help. I then work with them to understand the positive and negative thoughts, emotions, and behavioral patterns that get in the way of feeling fulfilled. Primarily, I use attachment-based therapy and Cognitive Behavioral therapy. I also use reflective, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing strategies to increase awareness and motivation to change.

My focus

I work with adults in individual therapy and with couples. My experience working with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, or strong emotional distress has led me to work in the areas of perinatal and maternal mental health, co-parenting caregivers, and life transitions/life developmental stages. I also work with people that have experienced traumatic events and struggle with coping with the aftermath.

My communication style

My communication style is calm and nonjudgmental. It's important for me to build a trusting relationship, so I like working collaboratively. I understand that some topics may bring up some discomfort or pain at the beginning of therapy, but my hope is that with time and trust, people will feel more at ease to open up as we work together and learn to tolerate these feelings.

My journey to mental healthcare

I became a therapist out of a desire to help people. What drives my work is the inspiration I get from seeing people's commitment to working on themselves and seeing them get better over time. Witnessing the progress and healing that people go through when they commit to overcoming their vulnerabilities is truly inspiring and humbling.

My goals for you

I approach goal setting by working collaboratively with clients. I tend to explain to clients that concrete goals can bring a great deal of fulfillment and motivation as opposed to general goals. Also, small steps at a time can be very beneficial to some people or can feel stagnant to others. That's why it is important to know the temperament and style of the clients. One important aspect of goal setting is to have realistic expectations and the openness to keep moving forward.

My first session with you

During a first session with me, clients can expect a warm and welcoming communication style and attitude. I like asking people if they have been in therapy before because I want to know how familiar they are with the process of therapy. I like answering questions that they might have about therapy. The majority of the time, I would ask questions to learn more about them and the reason(s) that brought them to therapy, and what goals they had during their time together. I always like to hear their stories and try to connect with them as much as I can. I also like to explain that the relationship between client and therapist can be a strong vehicle for change as it grows over time.
