Hi, I'm Brianna! I am a marriage and family therapist licensed in California and Colorado. I have spent most of my career working with the adolescent population and their families. Making a positive impact on their lives and futures has been incredibly rewarding. My professional journey has also included counseling adults through divorce, hardship, and life's obstacles.
My approach
I believe the most important part of making therapy successful is establishing a trusting relationship where I can then empower the client to pursue their desired goals and overcome barriers preventing that outcome. I am very client-centered and base tools and modalities on the individual's strengths and personality type. Often these interventions pull from theories such as motivational interviewing, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and humanistic.
My focus
The types of clients I have worked with really vary from adjustment or relational issues to more intensive and pervasive psychological disorders. I am comfortable treating mood and anxiety-based disorders as well as identity, impulse control, substance, and anger issues as well.
My communication style
My primary goal is to create a safe and comfortable environment where the client feels validated and listened to. I hope to make therapy a space where they can let down their guard and evoke positive change as a result.
My journey to mental healthcare
Right out of undergrad college, I went to work in an adolescent residential facility with teens who were recently released from jail or taken from the home for safety reasons. While I loved building relationships and making an impact in the lives of teens who had very little trust in adults or hope for a positive future, I felt like I wasn't making as much of an impact as I could with a higher degree and specialty. I went back to grad school and did my hours and internships to become a therapist and here I am today loving it all these years later and feeling much more impactful!
My goals for you
My primary approach to setting goals is through motivational interviewing. I also believe in listening to what brings the client into therapy and helping them find paths to alleviating pain and hardship through setting goals.
My first session with you
Clients should expect a calm, no-judgment zone where we discuss what brings them to therapy at this time and answer any questions or concerns they have about the therapeutic process, as well as a tentative plan to move forward.
