My name is Jean Foster, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I approach therapy by first building a relationship with and creating a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients.
My approach
I believe in a holistic approach; my style is directive but compassionate and patient. I think that progress is accelerated outside of the therapy session and will often suggest strategies to practice during the week to make lasting changes. I use a combination of theoretical approaches but primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered, and Solution-Focused modalities. I teach positive coping strategies, forgiveness (of self and others), and guided steps to healing and being able to move forward to a happier life.
My focus
I work with individuals who present with various concerns, including depression, anxiety, marital difficulties, and betrayal trauma. By providing my clients with a safe place, they are better able to process their pain and learn how the impact of their past impacts their present circumstances.
My communication style
I work to establish a relationship that is comfortable for each person I encounter. Clients feel heard, seen, and understood. I will often ask questions as a means of helping clients find their own answers but also offer helpful advice and gentle challenges.
My journey to mental healthcare
For as long as I can remember, I wanted to help others. Having been through and overcome difficulties of my own, created in me a desire to help others. For 33+ years, I've been a licensed therapist, and my passion is seeing people improve and have a happier life.
My goals for you
Every treatment plan is unique to the person’s needs in front of me, and goals are reached together. We review progress on a regular basis so that goals are achieved to the client's satisfaction.
My first session with you
Taking the first step can be scary, but doing so may change your life! In me, you will find a compassionate, non-judgmental, and respectful therapist who will guide you through the process of change you're looking for.
