Hi, I’m Vee Newsom, LMFT! I’ve been a licensed marriage and family therapist since 2015. I hold a B.A. Anthropology from UCLA (Jun 2004) and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles (Sep 2008). My focus areas at PATH include trauma-informed LGBTQIA+ adult psychotherapy and poly-friendly couples counseling.
My approach
My therapy style is radically authentic and direct, meaning I participate in your therapy as myself. I'm not a blank slate or wearing any masks. My therapy approach considers how patterns created in the past are influencing what is happening now, seeking to deepen and develop your inner wisdom. My therapy approaches can include Existential-Integrative, Trauma-Informed, LGBT-Affirmative, Psychodynamic, and Transference-Focused Psychotherapy, Mindfulness-based CBT, DBT, Harm Reduction, and Motivational Interviewing.
My focus
My usual clients are going through a crisis, often with depression, anxiety, sexuality, gender dysphoria, life transitions, relationship conflict, polyamory, past trauma, problem behaviors, substance abuse, existential concerns, and more. I enjoy working with creative and neurodiverse clients who are struggling to find purpose, direction, motivation, and meaning in life.
My communication style
My direct and conversational approach works well with clients who have tried therapy before with limited or temporary success. If you haven't been coping well or it's been hard to ask for help, I can help you work through this difficult time.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey as a therapist continues to evolve. My private practice shifted to virtual therapy for adults and couples in 2019. Since then, my skills have expanded into the psychedelic-assisted therapy space; I completed ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) training in 2022 and attended the MAPS Psychedelic Science conference in June 2023.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is collaborative. If you want to become your most authentic self and find meaning and passion in your life, let's figure out how to get you there!
My first session with you
My communication style can be more interactive than other therapy approaches. I'm an active and approachable participant who joins with you in the role of catalyst for needed changes.
