Not currently accepting patients

Hi there, I'm Javier!

I am a licensed psychologist with eight years of clinical experience providing services to individuals and families from a diverse population. I am enthusiastic about putting my skills to service and assisting my clients in the process of healing and growth.

My approach

I use an integrative approach to therapy, starting by working from a client-centered perspective so we can set goals for treatment that will dictate what strategies my client needs to meet their goals. From there, we can use emotional-focused approaches, behavioral interventions, cognitive strategies, relaxation skills, mindfulness exercises, and others, and accordingly with their needs.

My focus

I help my clients identify effective ways to deal with everyday life stressors and help them with their interpersonal situations. I assist individuals working through their depressive and anxiety symptoms by increasing awareness of these emotional experiences and identifying ways to alleviate their afflictions by applying therapeutic tools. Much of my experience includes helping individuals to cope with trauma, grief, and loss by emotionally processing the situation and generating a new narrative where the person can assimilate their traumatic events and allow space to new experiences.

My communication style

I work on creating a therapeutic environment where my clients feel free to express themselves, judgment-free. Kindness and acceptance are normally where the therapeutic alliance starts. Open and clear communication is key to foster any kind of relationship, including a therapeutic one.

My journey to mental healthcare

Before becoming a psychologist, I went to art school. While studying art, I learned about critical thinking, thinking creatively, and how to develop a creative process to produce art. However, when I finished art school, I realized that I wanted to help people in a more direct way by applying the creative problem solving and cognitive flexibility in function to improve my client’s life.

My goals for you

My therapeutic process starts with active listening to your needs to help us identify goals in treatment. Progress is not lineal, and I engage in a dynamic process where we identify what matters the most now, making haste slowly. Once we identify our goals, we can prioritize our objectives and apply strategies to meet our goals while leaving room for flexibility and creativity in the process.

My first session with you

I want to listen to your current struggles and start building a strong alliance working towards your betterment. I wish to install a sense of hope that will allow us to continue working together in our therapeutic journey.
