I am Hollis "Theon" Rogers, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am also a certified substance abuse counselor with many years of experience. I also address military issues including trauma and help with getting the benefits military personnel deserve.
My approach
I mainly utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused as my therapy approach. I also use Christian Counseling for clients who prefer Christian principles in addressing issues.
My focus
I typically work with the military and veterans and people of color. I have experience with addressing domestic violence issues. I am very comfortable with treating trauma of all kinds along with relationship issues and substance abuse issues.
My communication style
I am upfront and will challenge clients in an empathetic manner. I connect naturally with clients and may say a truth that may be uncomfortable, we will process the uncomfortableness together. I will always respect your decisions, even if I believe that they may not be the best for you.
My journey to mental healthcare
In hindsight, I was called into this field. I have a mentor who told me I should be a counselor because I would be good at it. I started as a substance abuse counselor in the Navy in 1999 and my skills, approach, and education led me in the direction of not just being a substance abuse counselor but a therapist that can address the issues that human beings face in this thing we call life. I have heard the cries of people who have been abused, abandoned by family, hurt by life circumstances and I believe we all need a therapist.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is collaborative with the client setting their own goals. I may give feedback; however, the decision will always be the client's.
My first session with you
Introduction and a brief description of my experience and going over the plan developed during the assessment. I give homework assignments and believe writing is a very therapeutic tool. The client has a right to decline any suggestions I give.
