My name is James Jurado. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and have been licensed in California since 1990. I have a client-centered approach to treatment centered around the reasons and goals people have for entering into a therapeutic relationship.
My approach
I conduct an assessment to gain an understanding of the various areas that influence the reasons for a person seeking help. The development of a treatment plan is part of the process as a clear plan of treatment goals helps define when the therapeutic relationship will come to a close. I assist the client in discovering and implementing ways to reach their goals.
My focus
I prefer to work with adults. I have worked with people in the behavioral health field and am familiar with the landscape of many jobs in that field. I am a Christian and can offer help to people who have faith in Jesus Christ within that worldview.
My communication style
I listen a lot and seek to understand the person's perspective. I actively engage people in problem-solving activities and then take action. This process will include an evaluation of what worked and what did not work to find more effective ways to make progress.
My journey to mental healthcare
I thought being a psychology major would help me with my own issues. I found that therapy and other modes of helping worked better for me. Nonetheless, I became a therapist and have been in the field since 1983 and since 1986 as a Social Worker. I have worked in multiple settings from psychiatric hospitals to private practice. I have worked in private and public behavioral health settings and have been a clinical supervisor since 1992.
My goals for you
People seek help for specific reasons. It's important to clarify what those reasons are and the goals that will emanate from them. This process helps to clarify when the person seeking help can move on without the assistance of the therapeutic relationship. If the goal has been met, we're done.
My first session with you
I will explain confidentiality and the limits of confidentiality related to safety and mandated reporting. I will be asking lots of questions because I'll be in assessment mode.
