Hi, I'm Lindsay Orlowski. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Illinois and Wisconsin as well as a Certified Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. I specialize in working with children and teens who have experienced a traumatic event in their lives but also work with adults with a range of other presenting disorders including anxiety, depression, and substance use concerns.
My approach
My approach to therapy is rooted in connection and mutual respect. The technique I most often utilize is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and person-centered therapy, however, I am also trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Parent Management Training.
My focus
My clinical background is in community mental health which has afforded me the opportunity to work with a large range of ages and presenting issues. Though I specialize in working with children and adolescents, I thoroughly enjoy working with adults in any life stage and presenting problems. My caseload is generally filled with children and their families navigating behavioral concerns, teens who have experienced traumatic events, and adults with anxiety and depression.
My communication style
I strive to create a warm and welcoming environment built on mutual trust and respect. Your overall comfort is of the highest importance as healing takes place in a space where you can feel free to be open and vulnerable and trust in the therapeutic process.
My journey to mental healthcare
I initially became a therapist to help children, adolescents, and their families navigate some of the most difficult times of their lives, all while learning how strong they really are and identifying some amazing ways to handle any future life challenges. As I expanded my range of ages and presented problems the joy of helping others to work through difficult events and again find fulfillment and happiness in their lives is what keeps me coming back.
My goals for you
Goal setting is addressed at the initial session and revisited at every subsequent session. I want to know the progress you are making or the barriers that are present so we can work together to create a lasting plan for change.
My first session with you
Our first session is about getting to know each other and discussing what has brought you to seek therapy. I will ask a series of questions to gather information including background and how long the presenting issue has been occurring, while continuously checking in on your comfort and any questions you may have. We will also work together to identify a goal for therapy and talk about a plan to get you where you want to be!
