My name is Teena Mabry, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) serving clients statewide in Illinois via telehealth. I have worked with all populations, but my focus is working with adults (18 & up). I specialize in depression, anxiety, stress management/burnout, work trauma, relationship issues, and clients dealing with chronic illnesses. My approach is through Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), strengths-based therapy/solution-focused, and existential psychotherapy. These approaches help identify negative thought patterns, focus on client’s strengths and own resourcefulness, and how free will and self-determination can help find meaning in a client’s life.
My approach
My approach varies on the needs of the client. The modalities mentioned above; CBT, strengths-based, solution-focused, and existential psychotherapy all derive from an encouraging and positive focus in which clients can grow and learn in.
My focus
Typically, I have worked with clients who are 18 and up, dealing with difficult life transitions, “new normals” because of chronic illnesses, unhealthy relationships that can cause depression, anxiety, and stress. I guide clients in finding their own strengths and assist with the development of healthy coping strategies.
My communication style
My communication style is direct, honest, yet supportive, and without judgment. Feedback that I have received over the years is that I am an excellent listener and clients are able to talk with me about anything and learn some new things in the process.
My journey to mental healthcare
I wanted to become a therapist because I deeply care about the well-being of others. I wholeheartedly believe that talking things through with an open mind and compassion can solve a lot of problems. People have naturally been drawn to me due to my caring nature. I really want to see people be their greatest and live in their truth because everyone deserves to be happy.
My goals for you
Goal setting is very important for progress. I work with the client to determine what their needs are and what they are looking for and we go from there. The first part of the process is just getting to know the client and developing a trusting working relationship.
My first session with you
The first session of therapy typically may be a little overwhelming and can be intense, as this session will be to discuss why you wanted to see a therapist, what your current feelings are, and to collect background information that will help me to understand how best to help you. During the first session, it will also be about building a connection and helping me to get a sense of where we should go from here.
