Laura J. Solomon, LCSW-R, Although I practice an Eclectic approach, I have found that with certain modalities, clients experience improvement within a relatively short period of time. I have also found that clients fair better when they set their own goals as opposed to following the goals of a therapist.
My approach
My most common theoretical approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Strength Based Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Psychodynamic Therapy.
My focus
I primarily work with individuals who would be appropriate in an outpatient clinical setting. Clients who are able to be open minded and are interested in shifting their vision, appear to experience the most growth during our therapeutic relationship.
My communication style
Although I consider what is the most comfortable environment while working with clients, my sessions generally include the processing of challenges and exploring solutions, a great deal of empathy and a sense of humor. I often see individuals who have unrealistic expectations of themselves which can create barriers to change. I believe that "better is better."
