Hi there, I'm Tonia!

My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style - Maya Angelou. I want to help you thrive.

My focus

I work with adults, navigating bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, along with many other challenges. I have a special interest in working with weight issues, in particular, obesity, and pre- and post-weight-loss surgery. Clients with BPD can suffer a great deal due to not having the skills/emotional tools to be successful. I can help.

My approach

Therapy can feel intimidating. I have listened to many life stories. I have supported clients as they walk through their memories, looking inside themselves, to help them become the person they choose to be. I do this with hope, knowledge, and humor.

My communication style

My approach is person-centered and down-to-earth. Former clients have told me that they felt seen, heard, and supported. They also frequently say they enjoy my humor.

My journey to mental healthcare

My Catholic upbringing influenced my choice to become a social worker. I was taught that those who are given much; much will be asked in return. I have received many privileges, and my work is to share what is needed. My first opportunity to do this was while I was working with teenage runaways living in pre=gentrified Times Square.
