Hi there, I'm Vicki!

My name is Vicki Foster. I have an MFT license in Ca. I have been working with individual adults, adolescents, families, and couples for over 30 yrs. I have worked in every level of mental health care and have been teaching clinical Psychology courses at the graduate level for 17 yrs., as well. I am an eclectic therapist that draws from a wide range of theories, whichever one or combination would be most helpful in the resolution of the issues at hand. Many problems result from distorted thinking. I specialize in helping you to sort out your thinking, making sure it is working for you and not against you. I can also help with coping skills and strategies to use in dealing with difficult people in your life who themselves are resistant to change and growth.

My approach

I draw from a wide variety of theories to help with whatever is most effective for the individual client in resolving the issues at hand. As a Ph.D. who has taught for so long, I am well-versed in multiple approaches. Besides, you wouldn't take your car to a mechanic who only uses a hammer right?

My focus

I work with individual adults, adolescents, families, and couples. I have worked at all levels of treatment with clients experiencing a wide range of issues.

My communication style

I work with my clientele in a respectful, compassionate manner. Confrontations and suggestions are done supportively, with a client's best interest and goals in mind, and in a way they can hear and respond to. I believe the client is the expert on their life and maintain a role as equals.

My journey to mental healthcare

I was a Pre-Vet major and could not handle when animals get hurt. Not a great Vet. I left Vet school and met my Mentor in the first class I took at a new University. It was Psyc 100 and I took EVERY course he offered. I love psychology as a field and have been going on strong ever since.

My goals for you

I work cooperatively with clients to formulate goals that are meaningful to them and work with them in measuring progress toward these goals and in modifying them as necessary

My first session with you

Clients can expect to meet someone who is genuinely interested in helping them and has compassion for what they are experiencing.
