I consider it an honor and privilege when people choose to engage in a therapeutic relationship with me. Taking clients through the brave journey of healing their hearts and minds is a process that continues to fascinate and humble me after 25 years of work as a therapist. My extensive educational and experiential background has helped shape the way I view my role as a therapist as a scientist, educator, and artist.
My approach
I adhere to the belief that educating my clients on the complex processes between the mind, emotions, body, and spirit is empowering and promotes a path toward healthy change while unloading the pain of the past without judgment. I help and support clients to create their vision toward a well-balanced life.
My focus
It is helpful when clients begin sessions motivated for treatment however I welcome resistant or skeptical clients to therapy as well and look forward to helping those clients overcome previous negative assumptions about therapy.
My communication style
I do a lot of observing and listening during sessions. My demeanor is calm yet I guide the session along.
My goals for you
Clients will tell me that they used the techniques we talked about in the session to help them manage through and cope with struggles in their daily life. When I hear the client say to me, "I remembered what we talked about in session this week when I was dealing with this issue..." then I know the client is taking therapy with them into their everyday life and this is a win for me.
My first session with you
During the first session of therapy, I want to understand the reason someone is entering therapy. I want that person to get a feel for how I conduct sessions, who I am, and my strategy for setting goals and working together. I want clients to feel safe to disclose or at least feel like there is a sense of safety in the session with me. By the end of that first session, the client and I will have a path for treatment with one or two important goals, I like to give homework so clients are mindful of what they are working on changing in their life, every day.
