My name is Hobert Gabuat and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in California. I use a client-centered therapeutic approach, solution-focused, strength, and very supportive allowing my clients to find the answers within themselves. I have over 4 years of experience working at Department State Hospital as a Clinical Social Worker treating patients suffering from severe mental illness and 5 years working in all five of San Luis Obispo County Hospital's Emergency Departments, specializing in mental health crisis and stabilization.
My approach
I use motivational interviewing, strength-based perspective, cognitive behavior therapy, mindfulness, solution-focused, and most importantly meet my clients where they are to assist in their mental health needs.
My focus
My focus is working with teens and adults experiencing anger, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and school and work-related stress.
My communication style
My communication style starts with listening. Clients can expect a calm and professional communication style in a positive and safe environment. I want clients to feel comfortable discussing anything on their minds.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've served 21 years in the military with multiple tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. During my tenure in the military, I realized the importance of mental health. There is often a stigma associated with mental health which prevents people from seeking assistance needed. Mental health is important and affects people regardless of background. I'm passionate about helping people in the community from different walks of life struggling with mental health. Additionally, I have 9 years of experience in a Charter High School mentoring, teaching, and coaching young men and women ages 16-18 years old.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a collaborative task involving client and therapist bonded with trust. During our time, we will work together to set and meet your goals during our therapy sessions.
My first session with you
In the first session, clients can expect a warm welcome and positive energy. Clients can expect to be heard and we can start to build a path towards a therapeutic journey. Our first session will be about your goals, expectations, and where you want to be after a few sessions. Most importantly, it's about building trust and our relationship in therapy.
