As a psychotherapist, my philosophical approach draws from psychodynamic interpretation rooted in psychoanalysis. I aim to address the foundation of psychological processes to reduce symptoms and improve people's lives.
My approach
My role is to help people gain insight into their current problems by evaluating cognitive and behavioral patterns, including emotions, thoughts, early life experiences, and beliefs. By recognizing patterns that avoid distress or serve as defense mechanisms, we can develop alternative coping strategies for lasting change.
My focus
I see individuals, couples, and families. My specialties include behavioral issues, anxiety, ADHD, anger management, depression, divorce, domestic violence, eating disorders, grief, life transitions, relationship issues, self-esteem, self-harm, sexual addiction and abuse, stress, substance use, trauma/PTSD, transgender and LGBTQIA+ issues, family conflict, bipolar disorder, and autism/Asperger's.
My communication style
My communication style aims to help clients gain insight into their lives and current issues. I review your thought patterns, emotions, early experiences, and beliefs to identify how you may be avoiding distress or using defense mechanisms to cope. Together, we'll develop healthier coping strategies to allow for meaningful, enduring changes.
My goals for you
My goal is for you to better understand yourself and your current challenges. I want to help you recognize unproductive patterns, then develop and practice healthier ways of coping. Through our work together, I aim to help you reduce symptoms, improve your relationships and quality of life, and make positive changes that last.
My first session with you
In our first session, I'll seek to understand what brings you to therapy and learn about your history, current situation, challenges, and goals. I'll explain my approach and how I believe I can help. Most importantly, I want to begin building a trusting therapeutic relationship with you, as this is the foundation for growth and change in therapy. You'll have the opportunity to ask any questions and voice what you want to get out of working together.
