My name is Mark Perez, LCSW 91261. My approach to therapy is straightforward in a compassionate, and empathic way. I also enjoy using laughter when topics become heavy.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is working with strengths-based and problem-solving techniques, but it really depends on the situation the client is working with.
My focus
My focus is broad I enjoy working with teenagers to the elderly. I enjoy listening to the stories and looking at the faces of the people I'm working with. It tells me a lot about who they are and how their issue has affected them.
My communication style
My communication style is being blunt when needed and compassionate when needed.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to become a therapist is pretty interesting. I was enrolled in a class (psychology), and I heard of a person by the name of Sigmund Freud. In the lecture, the professor spoke about Freud's id, ego, and superego. I found his concepts very interesting. So, I kept enrolling in psychology classes until I had to decide to pursue social work or finish my original goal of becoming a History Teacher.
My goals for you
When it comes to treatment planning I will at times follow the client's lead but if the client is unsure what the treatment plan should be, I like to provide the client with some ideas. I will not pressure the client to choose the treatment goals I want or what others want them to work on.
My first session with you
During the first session, the client should expect an introduction from me and then I want to hear what the client wants and needs from the therapist and what they would like to gain from therapy. I always want to share with the client during the first session it is up to them to decide if this partnership is a perfect fit. I also encourage the client to speak about their need/s because they now have a voice.
