My name is Veronica Oros-Navarro, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with twelve years of experience working with adults, the elderly, adolescents, children, and their families. I am a bilingual/bicultural therapist in English/Spanish, located in Oxnard, California, and working with clients via telehealth. I specialized in Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Stress, Behavioral Issues, and Self-harming behaviors, using Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Play Therapy, Solution Focused Brief (SFBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
My approach
My approach is based on the needs of each client I work with, but I typically focus on exploring the individual's strengths and abilities to grow to promote change in their struggles. I most frequently use Motivation Interviewing to help clients find their motivation to make positive improvements, Psychoeducation to enable clients to learn about their illness and treatment choices, and CBT to help identify troubling situations and promote awareness of thoughts, emotions, and beliefs.
My focus
My approach and style are a good fit for teens, young adults, and adults who may be struggling with different symptoms of depression, anxiety, past trauma, life transition, and stress. I teach clients to learn new skills and navigate ways to find their own healing to achieve a meaningful life.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, concise, and clear to increase empathic engagement. I provide positive feedback taking into consideration the client's background and being culturally sensitive. I openly discuss readiness by paying individualized attention to the client's needs and goals. I use active listening and promote a nonjudgmental environment to make sure clients feel comfortable sharing their personal and delicate information.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist during my teen years when I saw myself having difficulties finding a person to understand me and being empathic during this challenging transition. I did many internships working with teens, adolescents, and young adults in different settings such as hospitals, foster care systems, churches, and schools. I have always naturally been drawn to helping people through difficult times and the best reward is to witness clients' recovering their mental health.
My goals for you
My style of goal setting is collaborative, by working together with my clients, whether they need my support to set goals or came up with set ideas, I make sure clients understand the importance of working together as a team. My first approach is to start building the client's trust and promote a safe environment to share during therapy sessions. Over time, I review progress and encourage clients to set new goals if we did not accomplish the previous ones.
My first session with you
The first session is all about building a relationship and learning about the client's struggles that pursue them to seek therapy services. I also will ask questions to have a better understanding of the situation and make clarifications if necessary. I like to be thoughtful about each client's needs to make sure they receive the best service possible.
