Hi there, my name is Jennifer Cass, Jen for short, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Sacramento, California. I work with clients from all walks of life via telehealth. My area of expertise is working with children, adolescents, and adults who experience depression, anxiety, stress-related anxiety, grief, and symptoms from past abuse and trauma. My approach includes a mix of evidence-based interventions and strategies that best reflect the individual strengths and needs of the person.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the strengths and needs of each person I work with. The most common theoretical approaches I use in my work include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Brief-Solution Focused Therapy to name a few.
My focus
My client focus includes children, teens, and young adults. The conditions I'm most comfortable treating include depression, trauma from past abuse, grief, anxiety, and regular life situations that require someone objective and honest to talk to.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable, but also direct and honest. It is important to me that my clients feel heard without prejudice or judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey started when I graduated from college and started working with teenage girls who had been neglected and abused. These young ladies motivated me to further my education and skills in providing therapy. I obtained my Master's in Social Work degree from California State University, Sacramento, and pursued obtaining my clinical hours in order to independently practice therapy. Since 2009, I've been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing therapy and loving every minute of it.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is about getting an accurate assessment of the client's perceived problems and setting realistic goals to eliminate the problems.
My first session with you
Expect the first session to be about sharing in your own words what you would hope to get out of therapy. The first session is about us building an initial connection and exploring perceived problems/issues together. We will do a brief assessment and begin to build treatment goals.
