My name is Janet Rodriguez and I am a licensed clinical social worker. My approach is warm, compassionate, and relational. I like to create a space where individuals feel safe, supported, where they can be their authentic selves and find humor in life’s challenges. My areas of focus are trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions, parenting, relationship issues, first/second generation and immigrant challenges.
My approach
I believe in the importance of tailoring care to the unique individual. I use an eclectic approach that draws from a variety of therapeutic modalities, including attachment-based, psychodynamic, EMDR, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, somatic and mindfulness practice, along with others.
My focus
I enjoy working with individuals who are transitioning to parenthood, want to focus on self-confidence and self-compassion, experienced family dysfunction growing up, and/or are looking to understand themselves better and break generational trauma. I am comfortable treating depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, parenting, relationship issues, first/second generation and immigrant challenges.
My communication style
My communication style is warm, compassionate, nonjudgmental, and transparent. In our sessions, you will feel understood and challenged. It is a combination between your preferred pace and getting the most out of our time together.
My journey to mental healthcare
My interest to becoming a therapist began when I worked in a school setting. I found that children thrived when there was family support and involvement. Those experiences drew me to pursue a degree in social work and specialize in working with children, women and parents throughout my career. Growing up as a first-generation Latina also influenced my professional journey in many ways. I was witness to the mental health stigma in my family and society. The generations before me were understandably preoccupied with surviving. These experiences have lead me to want to help normalize mental health care, create a safe space where we can begin to change dysfunctional generational patterns and live to find joy rather to just live to survive.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a collaborative process. I want goals to feel realistic, attainable, and unique to you!
My first session with you
In our first session, you can expect to have a further understanding of the therapeutic process, have your questions answered, discuss what you want from therapy, and for you to have the opportunity to decide if we are a match. Part of the magic in therapy is feeling safe and connected with your therapist.
