My name is Courtney Farrell Swanson, and I am an LCSW. I provide strengths-based, client-centered therapy. I believe that connection is an important part of the therapeutic relationship, whether you are experiencing depression, anxiety, a mood disorder, psychosis, PTSD or other traumas.
My approach
I have an eclectic approach, but I rely on evidence-based interventions to help restore positive self-esteem and confidence in one's ability to cope and thrive in the face of life's difficulties. Through talk, or psychodynamic therapy, we will explore areas where there may be distortions in thinking (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and we will work on correcting those distortions. We will utilize Mindfulness skills to reduce stress and anxiety and increase the peace and well-being we all desire.
My focus
I have worked with a wide spectrum of mental health issues, ranging from mild depression and anxiety to severe mental illness, as well as co-occurring disorders. I have worked with many clients from the LGBTQIA community, as well as all age groups. I prefer transitional-aged youth to the elderly population.
My communication style
I am warm, friendly and empathetic. I am easy to talk to and a good listener. I believe that what the client needs should be the focus of each session. I want to learn about you and tailor interventions to meet your needs.
My journey to mental healthcare
Becoming a therapist was a long journey that started when I was an adolescent. I believe it is a calling that is profoundly meaningful and important, and I am honored to work with each client I have the privilege to meet.
My goals for you
Together, we will set specific, long and short term goals, to make sure that you are making the progress you desire, whether it is to reduce stress, anxiety and depression, or increase calm and wellbeing, we will collaborate to create goals that are aligned with who you are.
My first session with you
Getting started can be difficult. During your first session, I want to hear about you and the reasons you have decided to begin therapy, and I will ask you questions to gather information to help determine how I can best serve you on your journey.
