Hello! My name is Tess Norton and I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist. I use a psychodynamic, client-centered approach with my clients. I help young adults better handle life’s stressors, keep perfectionism in check, and grow their self-esteem.
My approach
I have a training background in psychodynamic therapy, but I also love the client-centered nature of humanistic therapy. I have used strengths-based approaches in my practice as well.
My focus
I enjoy working with young adults who are navigating their own unique paths in life. I am most comfortable working with anxiety, whether it stems from familial stress or societal pressures. I am especially passionate about serving the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. I also enjoy working with immigrants and children of immigrants.
My communication style
I want to foster a comfortable environment that feels safe and welcoming. Deciding to see a therapist is a big step that takes a lot of courage. I want to help make the process feel less intimidating and give my clients a space where they can be themselves without judgment.
My goals for you
I believe goals should be created collaboratively. I want to help clients work on the issues that matter to them.
My first session with you
I will go over how therapy works and give clients time to ask any questions they may have. For people who have been to therapy in the past, I’ll explore what went well and what didn’t work. I’ll ask why the client is seeking therapy and collaboratively make goals. I want to empower clients to decide if I’m a good fit for them.
