I'm Mary O'Connor, a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist who has had the joy of being able to work with families. I love the work I do and have over 30 years of experience working with couples, families, and individuals. I have been privileged to turn around and use my excellent training from Chapman University to train intern therapists and run a nonprofit for families in crisis. These men and women are now successful therapists themselves. Today my goal is to help you find your way out of situations that are troubling you, with compassion and good humor.
My approach
I have seen great success with using the cognitive behavioral theory along with looking at any trauma-related past experiences that are blocking your way to moving forward.
My focus
I enjoy working with couples and individuals who are looking for better-coping mechanisms than what they are using today. Small changes make for greater results, clients tell me. If you are sad, angry, grieving, struggling, or anxious, then we can look at those issues. Willingness on your part is the key.
My communication style
I have been told by my clients that they feel comfortable with me and supported. I like to meet you where you are at and look at the most important goals you have to work on.
My journey to mental healthcare
I learned I had a knack for listening to people and having them share things with me during my tenure as a graduate assistant in sociology conducting a study on grief and bereavement. I have loved my work as a therapist since I first started seeing my first clients. It is such a privilege to be invited into your life and work with you to uncover what has been bothering you and discover your strengths and weaknesses. I feel so lucky to have found a profession that fits me like a glove and makes me happy every day to go to work!
My goals for you
You may not be sure what your goals are initially; that is okay, we can explore together what hurts you and what you uncover to try to fix these problems.
My first session with you
In our first session, we'll go over your history and look at what you have gone through and where you want to go.
