As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field, I am passionate about helping individuals through a holistic approach to mental health. I previously worked as the Clinical Director of an Outpatient Mental Health Treatment Center and am now committed to working with individuals in full-time private practice.
My approach
I value holistic treatment in which clients are approached through a mind-body-informed perspective. My experience has allowed me to hone in on my clinical expertise regarding the mind-body connection as well as gain a better understanding of the impact that trauma has on mental health and behavior. I utilize techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Informed Therapy, EMDR, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Relapse Prevention, Motivational Interviewing, and movement therapy.
My focus
I specialize in working with individuals dealing with trauma, depression, substance abuse, anxiety, relationship issues, ADHD, bipolar disorder, behavioral issues, self-esteem, self-harm, personality disorders, life transitions, stress, suicidal ideation, and autism or Asperger's syndrome. I am also experienced in working with the LGBTQIA+ community.
My communication style
I believe in open, honest dialogue where you feel heard and validated. My communication style is warm yet direct, allowing us to collaboratively explore your thoughts and feelings in a judgment-free space. I tailor my approach to your unique needs, blending empathy with gentle guidance to help you gain clarity and work toward meaningful change.
My journey to mental healthcare
Growing up in Virginia, I was frustrated by the disconnect I saw between physical and mental health. This led me to study and explore the role that exercise, movement and mental health therapy had on my overall health as well as those around me. I moved to California with the dream of becoming a therapist. I attended the University of Miami, FL for undergraduate studies and California State University, Dominguez Hills for graduate school, where I focused my clinical research experience on the study of mental health as it relates to physical health through psychoneuroimmunology. I also began studying dance movement therapy, which led me to international work in Ghana, Africa doing HIV prevention and outreach through cultural dance with the Sankofa Center.
