Not currently accepting patients

Hi there, I'm Jonathan!

I am Dr. Jonathan Behler, an NC, VA, and AL Licensed Mental Health Counselor and an ordained and licensed minister. I have a Ph.D. in Psychology, a Master's of Divinity in Theology, a Master's in Professional Counseling, and a BS in Political Science.

My approach

I am a compassionate therapist with a listening ear. I work with patients on their whole being - body, soul, and spirit. We develop ways together to deal with the problems and situations going on in their lives. I utilize a mixture of CBT, positive psychology, and faith-based integration for those who desire it.

My focus

I have experience working with patients with depression, anxiety, PTSD, Tourette Syndrome, OCD, marital issues, family issues, clergy burnout, porn addiction, and numerous other mental health issues. I have also worked with military members and their families dealing with PTSD-related problems. Finally, I have extensive experience working with clergy members.

My communication style

I strive to be an empathetic and effective listener regarding the therapeutic process with my clients. Clients state that they feel comfortable working with me, they feel supported and encouraged, and they know that I have their best interest at heart. They state that I am caring, patient, kind, and compassionate. I like to create an environment where the client can feel comfortable talking about anything in their heart and mind.

My journey to mental healthcare

My journey to therapy I really care about people. I was a pastor for a number of years, and I saw how many people were hurting and just needed someone to listen to them. People opened up to me, and several people suggested that if I ever left pastoring, I should pursue becoming a counselor. After several years of pastoring, I did just that. Being a therapist drives me because I often see people work through their situations and become stronger and healthier individuals.

My goals for you

I start off by asking patients what they want to get out of therapy. We then craft those into workable goals together. I try to have them be in the driver's seat of setting the goals so that they have ownership.

My first session with you

During our first session, I complete a patient assessment. This helps me to get to know the patient. I like to get to know their background and help them to learn about me and feel comfortable with me.
