What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is a therapeutic approach designed to help people accept distressing thoughts and feelings in order to live a more fulfilling life. This type of therapy promotes growth and healing by accepting inevitable challenges in life without judgement rather than avoiding them – leading to greater self-compassion and self-awareness.
ACT is often used to manage common mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders and substance use disorder, as well as some chronic physical health issues and burnout/stress related issues.

Getting started
There’s no right or wrong reason to start therapy. Whether you’re seeking help navigating a life transition or managing symptoms of anxiety or depression, therapy is an effective treatment for many types of concerns – all you need is an open mind and a general sense of what you’d like to explore with a therapist.
It depends on your personal preferences and goals. Whether you’re seeking a therapist who specializes in certain mental health conditions, shares your ethnic background, or is available to meet at your preferred time – Rula makes it easy to search and filter by what matters most to you. If you don’t feel like your first choice was a match, don’t worry – we’ll help you switch to a different therapist in our network. Check out our blog post for more pointers on finding your best-fit therapist.
Absolutely. Research shows that the combination of talk therapy and prescription medications can result in significantly better outcomes in the treatment of many common conditions. Whether you start with therapy, psychiatry, or both, Rula makes it easy to expand your care team.
Understanding costs
Rula accepts 100+ commercial insurance plans including most major carriers such as Aetna, Anthem, most Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield plans, Cigna, Kaiser (by referral), Optum, Oscar, and United Healthcare. Rula also accepts many employer-sponsored plans, plus Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid in many states, with coverage expanding regularly.
When searching for a provider, you'll be able to quickly check if your specific plan is covered by filling in your state and searching for your insurance carrier.
Rula patients typically pay $15 per session, although your individual cost may vary based on your insurance benefits and deductible. As a benefit of using Rula, we’ll contact your insurance carrier and provide you with an estimate of your per session cost before your first appointment!
While Rula is in-network with most major insurance plans, we understand that not everyone is covered by insurance. Rula offers a cash rate of $150/session for individual therapy and $165/session for families or couples.
The cash rate for psychiatry sessions is $350 for an initial 60-minute intake session and $150 for 30-minute follow-up sessions. You can also use your HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Savings Account) to cover out-of-pocket expenses.
