What to expect from EMDR
8 phases of treatment
EMDR therapy involves 8 phases designed to help you process and heal from trauma-related emotional distress. These phases include reviewing your personal history, identifying specific target memories, and using guided techniques to reprocess traumatic experiences.
6-12 sessions
A typical course of EMDR therapy consists of 6 to 12 sessions, though the number may vary depending on individual needs. Many people notice improvement after just the first few sessions.
Resourcing
Resourcing involves developing personalized coping strategies to manage emotional responses during or between sessions. Your therapist will help you develop strategies and techniques that can reduce distress and enhance emotional regulation.

Millions of successful sessions and counting.

Getting started
There’s no right or wrong reason to start therapy. Whether you’re seeking help navigating a life transition or managing symptoms of anxiety or depression, therapy is an effective treatment for many types of concerns – all you need is an open mind and a general sense of what you’d like to explore with a therapist.
Research shows that the combination of talk therapy and prescription medications can result in significantly better outcomes in the treatment of many common conditions. Whether you start with therapy, psychiatry, or both, Rula makes it easy to expand your care team.
Yes! Rula partners with insurance companies to bring you affordable, in-network care. Your individual cost may vary based on your insurance benefits and deductible — but don’t worry, we’ll work with your insurance to confirm your estimated per session cost before your first appointment.
Understanding costs
Rula offers psychiatry and medication management services to individuals aged 13+ in California and adults 18+ in over additional 40 states. We’ll be live in all 50 states soon!
Psychiatric providers are able to prescribe a majority of FDA-approved psychiatric medications, with limited exceptions. For example, they are not able to prescribe certain experimental treatments such as ketamine. Certain stimulants are also subject to additional state-level regulations.
During your initial visit, you’ll meet with a licensed psychiatric provider over live video to discuss your medical history, individual concerns and goals for treatment. Initial intake appointments typically last an hour, and your provider will use the information provided in your first session to create a personalized treatment plan.
